Welcome to a page about the changes that we have made to the Putney Exchange Shopping Centre environment to ensure your safe and enjoyable shopping experience.
We recognise that Covid19 coronavirus has had a big impact on us all. We’ve all had to adjust throughout 2020 to a ‘new normal’ as the term has now been coined, by staying at home, keeping to an accepted social distance, wearing face masks, using hand gel, and altering our shopping behaviour to ensure that we don’t catch or spread the virus if we are potential and unknowing carriers.
As a centre, we have worked closely with all our retailers, property management team, property owner, and many Putney stakeholders to work out the best and safest way of welcoming you, our customer, back to the centre and helping our retailers survive and thrive through your patronage and support.
We have therefore created this page for you to see the signage, wayfinding, hygiene measures and other guidelines we have implemented.
This process has then been audited by our management team and an external auditor to ensure we conform to the highest public health and safety standard possible in this shopping centre environment.
Please remember if you are showing any symptoms as listed by the NHS website: www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/ please stay home, self-isolate and do not meet members of your family, friends or public for the specified period of time as stated by the NHS and UK government guidelines.
You can do an online self-test through the NHS here: https://111.nhs.uk/covid-19
We understand that this is a change for all of us and there will be longer waiting times and a new routine to take on board but we thank you for your patience and support as we all adjust to this new way of shopping in Putney.
We have security guards patrolling the centre at all times and they are providing support and guidance to those that need it, so you will not be alone.
On behalf of us all here at Putney Exchange, happy shopping and thank you for supporting our retailers.
Wearing a face mask in our shopping centre
As of Friday July 24th 2020, the UK government has stated that face masks must be worn in all shops, shopping centres, and enclosed areas.
What does this mean for you if you want to come into the Putney Exchange shopping centre?
We ask that you wear a face mask or face covering at all times when you are in the centre. This means that from the moment you enter into the shopping centre’s main concourse, our car park or any of our retailers, you must keep your nose and mouth covered with a face covering at all times. This may be a clinical face mask or simply a scarf wrapped around your face, but it must cover you the entire time you are in the centre.
Under current UK government guidelines, children under the age of 11 years are exempt, but there are retailers in the centre selling children’s face masks if you feel more comfortable having your child wear a mask as well.
At the entrance to our centre we will have some of our shopping centre team guiding you as you enter and asking you to cover up if you are not already wearing a face mask. We ask that you help us to keep other shoppers and our centre and retail staff safe by doing your part and complying with the latest guidance.
If you arrive at the centre without a face mask or face covering we can show you to our new Maskey vending machine, located by Waitrose on the ground floor where you will be able to buy a face mask before you begin shopping. Some of our other retailers are also selling face masks and you will be able to purchase fabric or disposable masks there as well. Supplies at these retailers however cannot be guaranteed so we ask that you come to the centre prepared.
If you refuse to wear a mask, we reserve the right to ask you to obtain a mask before entering the centre. Our aim is your safety and that of others, and we do not want to prevent anyone from entering the centre at any point as we value the support you give to us and our retailers, but we hope that you understand it is important that we do our part in line with the current government ruling.
We will update this page and our face mask policy in line with any future government or scientific advice.
Toilets & Baby Change/Feeding areas
Our public toilets and baby change/feeding areas in the centre are open for your convenience. We have implemented a more frequent cleaning regime to reduce the likelihood of viral transmission but as always, we ask that you wash your hands well with soap after using the facilities.
We are only allowing one family in the baby change and feeding area at a time and we ask that you respect this and wait for the family before you to finish using the room before entering.
Getting in and out of the shopping centre
You can currently access our shopping centre through all the normal entrances (Mall 1 & Mall 2, plus the car park entrances) with ease. When we first reopened after Covid19 lockdown, we did have a one-way system in place but with restricted numbers of shoppers in the centre, and the fact that most of our shoppers have been extremely supportive of keeping to an adequate social distance from one another we have now relaxed this and are allowing a free flow of movement through the centre.
As always, please remember to social distance as you walk through the centre, and please be considerate and patient to others who are trying to do the same.
You are likely to experience some queuing at the entrance to the centre or when you are trying to access retailers, as this is part of our traffic flow management keeping total numbers in the centre down for your health and safety. Please bear with us during this time as we are doing this to help prevent a resurgence of the virus. It’s all part of doing our part to help the community.
We understand that this new way of shopping is a change for all of us and there will be longer waiting times and a new routine to take on board but we thank you for your patience and support as we all adjust to this new way of shopping in Putney.
We have security guards patrolling the centre at all times and they are providing support and guidance to those that need it, so you will not be alone. Please feel free to approach them and ask for help if you need it.
On behalf of us all here at Putney Exchange, happy shopping and thank you for continuing to support our retailers that are now all open for business and ready to serve you.
Directional Signs in Centre
Below are some examples of the directional signage that we have in situ in the centre. These signs may change or move in the weeks to come as we receive guidance from the UK government and the retail industry.
We will also be learning from how you shop and move about the centre and make adjustments if we feel it is for your benefit.
Please note that each retailer is responsible for their entry/exit rules, signage and social distancing within their own shops. They are also responsible for implementing their own health and hygiene routine. Putney Exchange Shopping Centre is not responsible for the retailers’ internal environment, although it should be noted that we regularly share all our plans and guidelines with them in order to guide them in their own preparations. Our guidelines are based on the latest UK government and WHO advice at the time. Any changes we make are also circulated via a paper memo to each store manager in order to update each of our retailers on the latest recommended policy we need them to adhere to.
Directional Signage Design Examples
Below are some examples of the directional signage designs that are being used in the centre to help customers and retailers maintain their distance, observe new routes through the centre, and remain safe and healthy as we continue to ‘Stay Alert’ and try and keep the R-number below 1. (Read more about the R-number here: https://publichealthmatters.blog.gov.uk/2020/05/15/coronavirus-covid-19-real-time-tracking-of-the-virus/)
